In the narration of "This is Water" the author illustrates how life was once going well for him and he is going through a dark moment in his life and the aspect of death to him as if he can't escape. It also reveals how people can be going through multiple situations where you can never know what another person is experiencing themselves while you think they are being careless due to their actions. He also shares a moment where just like the story with the blind woman who everyone respected due to her being wise and able to "see" metaphorically. Both stories show many figurative languages to make their story very creative like imagery and metaphors.
The point is both of the authors had different messages to get through the audience especially with the old woman being blind and wise. In the novel where the kids tried to play a trick on her with the bird to make it seem as if she was a phony fooling everyone by misguiding them with her information. To prove that she wasn't a host she acknowledged the fact that the child did have something in his hand not knowing whether the object was dead or alive. This novel shows that you can't try to fool someone because in some degree it would backfire and make you look like the idiot. As to "This is Water" novella the author gave broad descriptions about how you can't judge people no matter how difficult of a day you have because there could be other folks who are going through it worse than you. Both stories established a majority of being aware of unpredictable situations and how everyday life isn't going to turn out the way you want it , so you have to make the most of it.
I have to agree what you explained of people judging one another because it’s not always a physical issue that most people do when people judge the victim, but it’s also a mental issue. That saying “don’t judge a book by its cover”, there is more in detail with that quote. Due to the fact that your right you honestly don’t know if that person is going through a rough situation that you’re basically putting them in a tougher issue that can lead them into serious consequences. Even for the blind women that the young people though they can fool her if there was a living or dead bird in their hand. You can’t have that sense of judgment on any person that you know that affect them in a long run.
ReplyDeleteI agree with everything you’ve said in your post. But I mostly favor your last paragraph. How it ended with the authors similar awareness that life does not always playout how you expect it to. Anybody that can’t accept that are probably having a hard time. Like the young people showed up expecting to see a specific thing and ended up disappointed when their idea was shut down. I feel like with us being in school, in such a new environment that this applies to us. Some have planned how they want the year to go, planned how they want to do certain things expecting them to go exactly that way. Sadly I’m the type of person to do this and I’m currently learning that it just doesn’t work that way in life. It’s not one way or another. There are endless amounts of outcomes for everything.
