For my response about Jill Taylor’s comment about experiencing
a world without language and to have a silence mind would have to be calm and
confusing. The reasoning being is because in a world we live in we always to
have a voice to speak about things, but when you don’t have that opportunity to
do so you get the thoughts in your head that you talk about it for a long
period of time. However, when your mind is filled with silence you get that
sense of reflection that you think of things that might be more important to
you instead of the distractions that’s around your world. Now in Jill Taylor’s prospective
“she misses the silence” and for most people would disagree on her side, but
let me ask you this question. Would you rather pause for a second and think of
nothing but silence to have a piece of mind to reflect the situation or hear
everything that’s going on around you and not have time to process it in your
head to fully think about it?
What makes me confuse at the same time would
have to be that again we live in a society that people tend to have a voice to
discuss about it and communicate. Now some people would think that Jill’s experienced
about a “world without language” as if we don’t communicate with each other. However,
that’s not the case we all communicate at some point, but if we need to take
some time to visualize clearly of what we see more of what is front of us
instead of being “blind-sided.” For instance, I had a classmate who was deaf
that he couldn’t speak or hear, but he understood what I wrote to him to
communicate. Then one day we were watching a controversial video about Racism
in America (keep in mind his signer didn’t show up at that day) and I turn
around to see him very serious and I wrote to him, “What do you think about the
video?” and he said, “Even though I can’t speak or hear, I know we need to speak
up about this situation.” And I totally agree with him, even though he is
unable to speak about it, his mind set is much clearer of what he sees than
hearing it. So for us to have a “silence” mind wouldn’t give us the chance to
voice our opinions.
I totally agree with everything Guillermo said because it’s true our whole society at this point relies on communication especially with technology which is another thing, but not being able to experience the world without any sign of language would be very difficult to process. Especially if you were around a group of peers because then you guys wouldn’t know how to communicate with one another or not know what the other is thinking nor saying. Life would really be confusing and dull. Like not being able to think would not allow you to be creative at all. Many resources we have today wouldn’t even be reinforced. For Example, back when the “Assembly Line” was made, every individual that participated in the process had some sort of communication to help build the cars. If your mind isn’t thinking any thoughts, wouldn’t it make your life difficult? Of course it would be like I don’t really know what I would do if my mind couldn’t comprehend a simple thought just seems like language wouldn’t exist.
ReplyDeleteAdditionally to what Guillermo said, it doesn’t give us the opportunity to “voice our opinion.” I couldn’t imagine how that would work, but I know it would deeply cause people to have a difficult time to live. If your mind isn’t processing any information or forming ideas then what would you possibly be doing? Jill life as of now is hard because he’s not able to just understand anything in general. Life is hard when you can’t use one of the most important tool you can ever have which is your mind. That is the most useful material you can be gifted with in this lifetime. A world without language is like going to class without your materials, so you wouldn’t be prepared at all and it wouldn’t make sense to even go to class. In this society we need language.
I have to agree that our world would be very calm yet very confusing. Having no sort of language or way of thinking would allow you to just pay attention and try to comprehend what is happening in the moment. You wouldn’t be able to think about other things as you have no way of thinking what is actually happening in that moment without some sort of language to think in. Although it would be nice and calm to just have some silence and not really think about anything it would just be very confusing in the long run. We would have no way of communicating with others so we would never be able to accomplish anything. Everyone would just be constantly trying to comprehend what other people are trying to do and we would get no where. Life would not be how it is today without language. So although it would be very calm to just not have to think about anything for a moment, it would be very confusing in the long run living a life without being able to communicate with others.
